Benefits of Digital X-Rays
Digital X-rays are fast, safe and reliable. Compared to traditional film X-rays, digital X-rays have several advantages, including:
- As much as 90 percent less radiation exposure
- Image is produced instantly
- High-resolution image is clear and detailed
- Image is easily stored and transferred electronically
- No chemicals are used to produce the image
Digital X-rays use an electronic sensor instead of film to produce an image. The image is instantaneously sent to a computer, where Dr. Chung and his team can view and enlarge the picture. Because the picture is stored electronically, Dr. Chung can retrieve the image at later appointments and send it instantly to specialists or other doctors if necessary.
All dental X-rays expose you to only a minimal amount of radiation – you are exposed to more radiation from outer space and the atmosphere than the technology we use in our office. During your scan, you wear a lead apron to further limit your body's exposure to radiation.
How We Use Digital X-Rays
Your digital X-ray enables Dr. Chung to plan any necessary treatment, which for some patients includes:
- Tooth-colored fillings for cavities
- Root canal treatment for advanced decay
- Periodontics therapy for gum disease
- Orthodontics for misaligned teeth
If one of these oral issues is present, digital X-rays can detect them early, letting you avoid the advanced stages of these issues.
Digital X-Rays and Your Dental Health
X-rays are a key component of diagnosing and treating dental problems arising in your teeth and mouth, and are essential to preventative dentistry. X-rays detect:
- Tooth decay
- Signs of gum disease
- Infection
- Abscesses
- Bite abnormalities
X-rays let Dr. Chung see abnormalities not visible to the naked eye. The technology is an essential component of preventative dentistry. By seeing signs of problems early, Dr. Chung can help you avoid more invasive and time-consuming dental treatments.
