Dental implants are growing in popularity with every year, and at Softouch Dental Care, we’re thrilled to help our Vienna-area patients who are in need of strong, durable teeth replacements by leading them through the implant dentistry process.
We field a lot of questions about dental implants, and one of the most frequently asked questions is, “how do dental implants work?” How are dental implants so durable and what’s the process like?
The secrets to the strength of dental implants lie in the materials used in their crafting and in the process of their placement. First, implants are made from strong materials – the implant itself is titanium, while the replacement tooth that is placed on top of the implant is a strong, durable porcelain.
The second component of an implant’s durability is in the process that goes into placing them. Dr. Chung will place your implant in the bone beneath your missing teeth. At that point, we wait between three and six months for your body to fully integrate the implant into the jaw. This process, known as osseointegration, takes some time, but the time investment is definitely worth it.
As a result of this process, your implant will be fully rooted in your jawbone. Your replacement tooth will have an incredibly strong foundation, and if you properly maintain your implant through basic dental hygiene, you can expect your implant to last for decades.
