What is a Full Mouth Rejuvenation?
It is as comprehensive as it sounds. It is any series of dental treatments to rebuild, recontour, reposition, or replace your teeth. It can work on individual teeth, on your gums, your bite, your tooth coloring, and on any painful or uncomfortable symptoms you may be experiencing that relate to dentistry.
What are some procedures that could be part of my Full Mouth Rejuvenation?
If your teeth are particularly crowded and crooked, Invisalign® would be an easy and convenient way to straighten them. Some other popular procedures are:
- Porcelain veneers – to give new front surfaces to front teeth
- Dental implants – to hold replacement teeth when teeth are missing
- Tooth-colored fillings – to replace old, unsightly metal fillings
- An orthotic – as part of a TMD treatment (temporomandibular joint disorder), retraining the jaw muscles to close in a correct bite
- Tooth reshaping – to both give an improved appearance to your smile, and as part of a TMD treatment where misaligned or misshapen teeth are interfering with your bite
- New teeth in one day – to stably support a full mouth of teeth with just four implants.
Could I get my Full Mouth Rejuvenation from my Local Dentist instead of a Cosmetic Dentist?
Perhaps you could, but how skilled would the work be, if the dentist lacks training in cosmetic dentistry and neuromuscular dentistry? Legally speaking, any dentist can call himself or herself a “cosmetic dentist”, but it would be a good idea to check into exactly what basis there is for that claim.
Cosmetic and neuromuscular dentistry training are not part of typical dental undergraduate studies. It must be acquired post-graduate.
The premier school for that training is LVI, the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. Dr. Chung has graduated from LVI and has been using that additional skill and knowledge for a number of years now. He has good experience, not only in performing highly skilled procedures, but in judging whether and when they are a good idea for any given person.
Why would TMD Call for a Full Mouth Rejuvenation?
TMD is a misaligned jaw joint. When the jaw is closing hundreds of times a day in an incorrect fashion, the upper and lower teeth are meeting in a way that causes wear and tear on them. You may develop loose teeth, chips and cracks in the teeth, and tooth misalignment. Now you have a number of cosmetic problems as well as the underlying health problem of TMD.
If the TMD goes untreated for long enough, loose teeth may even fall out. Then you have gaps in your teeth. Over the subsequent years, the surrounding teeth will move to fill in the gaps, putting themselves out of alignment. More misaligned teeth will worsen your TMD. Now there’s a vicious circle in place.
Throughout this, you may not be aware that you have TMD, and may never see a neuromuscular dentist. You may feel your headaches are migraines, and you may take pain medication to ease your pain. You may be seeing physical therapists for your neck and shoulder pain, or chiropractors. You may visit a medical doctor for treatment of your earaches never suspecting that they may have a dental cause.
The solution to all of these TMD symptoms is neuromuscular dentistry. Dr. Chung, with his advanced training, long experience, and specialized equipment, can diagnose TMD and treat it. While he’s treating your TMD, he can be also cosmetically enhancing your smile.
If you have TMD, it will be unique to you. Each case is different and calls for a customized treatment plan.
Is a Full Mouth Rejuvenation done only for people with TMD?
No. It can be done for anybody who has missing, misaligned, misshapen, discolored, broken or crooked teeth. Each mouth rejuvenation is customized, and yours has not been done yet.
